Co-Principal Investigator

I along with my research group will be involved in conducting microbiological assay, physico-chemical analysis and metagenomic DNA sequencing of the environmental samples collected from Baddi and Kangra area. We are using various bioinformatic tools to identify and classify the types microbial communities residing, their functional roles, and most importantly profiling antibiotic resistance pattern. With the help of deep metagenomic sequencing, the goal is to annotate the genes which confer resistance to the microbes against a specific antibiotic, estimate the gene copy number of targeted ARGs, identifying the mobile genetic elements, and predicting the underlying mechanism for resistance.

Dr. Hemant J. Purohit
Co-Investigator

Currently working on System Biology with research group, involved in gene networking, metagenomics &genomics based monitoring tools for bio-remediation process, gene regulation, bio-stimulation and bioaugmentation. Also, involved in designing a strategy for management of environmental issues and study of stress dependent microbial response using dynamic gene expression and its application in bioprocess optimization.

Dr. Abhay Bajaj
Co-Investigator

Actively involved in studying the dissemination of antibiotic resistance various environmental niches using culturable and metagenomic tools. My research interest area also includes the bioremediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and application of computational tools in biodegradation and bioremediation of environmental pollutants.
